Stone Age Maze Puzzle Mock Up

“If history repeats itself, I am so getting a dinosaur!”

Anonymous

We are fascinated by the idea of putting a small and relatively frail species such as ourselves in the same place and time as a massive and powerful dinosaur.

Perhaps it is the incompatibility itself that connects us. We can imagine the sort of awe and fear we would experience upon confronting one. Yet, the idea of entertaining such a beast, even in the context of our modern lives, is enticing.

I agree that it would be a fantastic experience, both for a dinosaur’s sheer size and presence and for the opportunity to learn more about the life of a creature so far removed from ours. And yet, we already share space with animals large and small that should fill us with the same kinds of wonder: Dangerous and odd reptiles, large and powerful behemoths, and small but frightful insects. They offer us a chance to experience something outside the human world and learn from them.

So while it would be thrilling to have a dinosaur as a pet, I wonder if we can think about our relationship with the things already in our environment. They are just as incredible and inspiring! Perhaps, you will even find yourself face-to-face with one.

xx
